 FAQ

Do you offer group classes?

We offer private and small group (up to 3 individuals). Small group class members must be arranged by you.

What’s better for me to get started with – mat or apparatus?

The fundamental Pilates workout can be performed on a mat alone, and great results can be achieved. However, the various apparatus pieces such as the Reformer, Cadillac and Chair incorporate light spring resistance that works like concentric and eccentric muscle contractions to safely sculpt, tone and stretch the muscles. The Barrel provides support that allows you to safely manipulate your body to stretch and engage muscles otherwise challenging to isolate. Smaller Pilates equipment pieces such resistance bands, circles and balls also provide an element of Pilates regiment. If you are coming to Pilates with injury or pain, the apparatus will provide your body with support thereby allowing you to potentially be able to be able to complete more exercises pain free.

How different is Pilates from yoga?

Although similar to yoga exercise, Pilates requires you to set a posture and then challenge the torso by moving the limbs, whereas yoga will move from one static posture to another with no repetitions.

What do I do for my first session?

Arrive to the session a little early to introduce yourself. I will have a form for you to complete with information about your goals and any injuries you have suffered or concerns about your body. I can also email this form to you prior to your first session if that is convenient for you! I will show you around the studio, introduce you to the apparatus & we’ll get started.

What should I bring and wear?

Wear clothes that are tight enough for the instructor to see your body but that you can move in. Not comfortable with tight clothing? Wear what you’re comfortable with and keep the idea of tighter clothing in mind for later, if you become more comfortable with it. For many people yoga-type pants and fitted t-shirts are great options. Also, classes are sans shoes. You can wear socks if bare feet are not your thing.

Classes are 45-50 minutes long – most days the time will fly by!

The studio is well equipped with mats, exercise balls, magic circles and many more props that we may use during your lesson. All apparatus and props are clean and ready for your use.
